Wanted: assassins follow the Ghost in the Machine
I saw the movie, Wanted, last night. The strangest part of the plot for me to swallow was the premise that an ancient 1,000 year old loom (for making tapestries) created a secret code (an assassins list of people to be killed) that only members of The Fraternity can decipher. The assassins, including Angelina Jolie’s character, no longer question the reasons behind “Fate’s” list, and discover too late that one in their midst has been manipulating them to his own ends. The movie’s pace kept me on the edge of my seat, and after it was over my thoughts lingered on how easily humans trust those in power to “interpret” words from God, the gods, or from Fate. I’ll keep thinking for myself, and check to make sure any “inspired words” from the world beyond jive with what the Bible says is true.
what turns me into the Hulk
I saw The Incredible Hulk this past week in the mirror and on the big screen. My children trigger these changes that happen when I find the third wet and/or dirty sock left on various room floors after I’ve gently provided two polite requests to pick them up. I don’t yell often, so when I do Hulkish qualities surface.
wall-e made me think about my dependence on technology
I saw the movie Wall-E last week. While terminator-genre movies instill the fear that machines will purposely destroy humans in the distant future, Wall-E paints the much more realistic future of humans growing overly dependent on machines until we lose our ability to survive on our own.
Since getting a BlackBerry I can hardly remember anyone’s phone number. Without electronic calendars I’d be sunk: my BlackBerry synchs with my Outlook Calendar at work. I then synch my Outlook calendar with my web based Google calendar. Then I can synch my Google calendar with my home computer’s Outlook or Mozilla/Thunderbird/Lightning calendar, or from any computer with a web connection I can view my Google Calendar. So even if ALL my computers got lost or burned up, I’d still have my electronic calendar, contact files, etc.
